Scrapping, especially computer scrapping is alot of work, and seeing all that shiny gold gives the elusion of riches and being paid back for the time and hard work you have put into it. Truth is, you will never get paid for that time, but waiting and saving up those little bits here and there will eventually yield a nice little payoff and reward for your efforts! Maybe several years back one could process enough scrap to get paid for the time it took to do it, but they have now learned to streach a miles worth of precious metal to 10 miles. At $1800.00 per ounce, a single Pentium Pro Processor made back in the day contains about $20.00 worth of gold. Most of the computers I get for scrap today have about half that or less in the intire computer, and I mean scrapping the whole thing right down to the shred steel. For example, the flat pinless processors that are in these newer computers only contain about 10 cents worth of gold, meaning it takes more then 200 of them to equal the gold that is in "ONE" Pentium Pro! My number one reason for doing this is, I simply enjoy doing it. I look at it from the standpoint of it being a hobby. But for me, its a hobby where I do get something back, not a hobby that I completly pay for out of my own pocket, like most other hobbies today. Looking at it from this point of view, makes it worth doing, also from time to time, you "Luck Up" and get your hand on some good old stuff that really pays off! Kind of like the old time miners when they hit that pocket of gold! I guess to sum up, all I can tell you is, the payment and reward for the time, effort, and work put into doing this, (for me anyway), is more often then not just a tiny little bead of gold, and the knowledge that my efforts kept this little piece of rare precious metal out of the "Mines Of The Future", (todays landfills).
